This book Pey Ba'a: The Life of the Indigenous Peoples of Belum-Temengor is a product from the working and experiential learning during the involvement of Yayasan EMKAY with the Orang Asli communities in Belum-Temengor over the years.

Pey Ba’a is a word from the local dialect of the Jahai community which means “Come to us”. The objective of this book is to provide a clear picture on the locations of the villages and also the lifestyle of both the Jahai and Temiar communities living therein. At the same time, this book also aims to draw the public closer and to be constructively involved with the Orang Asli community who in general are left far behind in their progress if compared to other citizens of Malaysia.

It is the desire of Yayasan EMKAY to help this community by introducing their culture and way of life as well as to highlight the challenges they face in their daily lives to the world at large. This is true to a phrase in Malay, “tak kenal maka tak cinta” which translated literally, simply means “you can’t fall in love with something that you are unfamiliar with.”

Hence, it is the hope of Yayasan EMKAY that all Malaysians will learn to appreciate as well as give due consideration to help the Orang Asli community. We hope the pictures depicted in this book will tug at your heartstrings and stir your emotions to want to do something for this community.
